Father’s Day arrives Sunday, June 21, and Sedona is ready with experiences that go well beyond the customary card and last-minute gift. Whether Dad calls the red rocks home or is spending the weekend here, the best celebration may simply be time together doing something he genuinely enjoys.
Take him into the backcountry, paddle the Verde River, rise above Sedona in a hot-air balloon or settle in beneath the cottonwoods with a fishing pole and a glass of local wine. Father’s Day weekend also brings special resort activities, family games, restorative experiences and a few good reasons to gather around the table.
Explore Red Rock Country Together
Some dads would rather spend Father’s Day bouncing across slickrock than sitting through another polite brunch. Sedona is particularly well equipped for that personality type.
A guided excursion with Pink Adventure Tours takes the family beyond the pavement and into Sedona’s backcountry without putting the family vehicle through an ordeal it never agreed to. Choose a rugged journey along the Broken Arrow Trail, explore ancient cultural sites or take in the landscape on a scenic tour through red-rock country.

Families who would rather explore on foot can also book a guided hike, giving everyone a closer look at Sedona’s geology, landmarks and natural history while leaving the route-finding to someone who knows where they are going.
Take the Adventure to the Water
About 25 minutes from Sedona, Clarkdale Kayak Co. offers guided paddling trips along 3.5 miles of the Verde River. The roughly two-and-a-half-hour experience travels through calm desert waterways, canyon scenery and a few small chutes and riffles that add just enough excitement without turning Father’s Day into a survival exercise.

The stable inflatable kayaks are designed for beginners, families and experienced paddlers, and children ages 5 through 12 can participate with an adult. Guided trips include the kayak, paddle, life jacket, dry bag, bottled water and transportation to and from the river. For dads 21 and older, the Paddles to Pints option follows the river trip with craft beer at Smelter Town Brewing in historic Clarkdale. It is a fitting reward for anyone who spent two hours pretending the rest of the family was paddling equally hard.
See Sedona From the Sky
For a Father’s Day experience that is difficult to top, take the celebration above the red rocks on a sunrise hot-air balloon flight. Red Rock Balloon Adventures offers early-morning flights over Sedona’s forests, canyons and sandstone formations. The complete experience lasts approximately four hours, including about an hour to an hour and a half in the air.

Northern Light Balloon Expeditions also carries guests over Sedona on flights guided by the morning winds. The family-operated company has flown in the area since 1974, and each experience concludes with a traditional champagne toast. Balloon flights depend on weather and launch conditions, so reservations should be made early and schedules kept somewhat flexible. Mother Nature remains firmly in charge of the itinerary, as she tends to insist.
Put Dad on the Train
Let someone else handle the transportation while the family takes in one of Northern Arizona’s most remarkable landscapes.
Father’s Day on the Rails returns to Verde Canyon Railroad on June 20 and 21 with three departures from the historic Clarkdale depot. Families can choose an 11 a.m. morning ride or 5:30 p.m. Starlight Adventure on Saturday, followed by a 1 p.m. classic canyon ride on Father’s Day. Each four-hour round-trip journey follows the Verde River into a protected wilderness corridor accessible only by rail.

Along the way, the train passes towering canyon walls, historic bridges and a century-old tunnel carved through the rock. Comfortable passenger cars and open-air viewing areas make the excursion accessible for families traveling with different ages and activity levels. Dad gets the scenery, railroad history and time with the family without having to navigate, drive or claim that he knew where the turn was all along.
Spend the Afternoon Fishing in Wine Country
Father’s Day at D.A.Ranch offers a slower kind of celebration beneath the cottonwoods of Verde Valley wine country. The 170-acre estate vineyard will welcome families from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21. Guests can listen to live music, order lunch from Savories Food Truck and relax beside the ranch’s ponds, vineyards and historic red barn.

Dads can purchase a special fishing license that includes access to the ranch pond, live bait and a glass of D.A.Ranch Homestead wine or a beer from Verde Brewing Company. The license also includes discounts at the food truck and on D.A.Ranch wine and merchandise. Guests should bring their own fishing poles and settle in for an afternoon outdoors.
It is an easygoing option for families who want to spend the day together without scheduling every minute of it, a concept modern civilization nearly abandoned around the invention of the shared digital calendar.
Make a Weekend of It at Enchantment Resort
Enchantment Resort is planning several Father’s Day experiences from June 19 through June 22, giving families an excuse to extend the celebration beyond Sunday. Trail House will offer complimentary mountain bike and e-bike rentals for dads with a minimum reservation of two people. Other options include axe throwing, archery and a woodburning class where guests can create designs on live-edge wooden rounds.

Mii amo will host Embodying the Divine Masculine from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 20. The experience centers on presence, responsibility, protection and other qualities associated with mature masculine energy. On Father’s Day, Enchantment and Mii amo guests are invited to a special Crystal Grotto ceremony from 3 to 4 p.m., offering a space for guided meditation and gratitude for fathers and father figures. The weekend also includes golf at Seven Canyons, poolside relaxation and spa services designed with Dad in mind. Some experiences are reserved for resort or Mii amo guests, and several require advance reservations.
Settle the Family Rivalry Over Cornhole
For something casual and family-friendly, Arabella Sedona will host Father’s Day Cornhole Games in its courtyard from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 21.

Families can challenge Dad to a round or two, although how “friendly” the competition remains will depend heavily on his personal relationship with lawn games. Beer will be available for purchase, and guests can enjoy a complimentary sweet treat.
Slow Down With a Sacred Sound Journey
Father’s Day weekend does not need to be packed with constant activity. For dads who would appreciate a quieter and more restorative experience, Shine Sanctuary Sedona will host a Summer Solstice Father’s Day Sacred Sound Journey with Cheryl Bailey at 4:30 p.m. on June 21. The 90-minute experience uses crystal alchemy bowls, gong, meditation chimes, crystal harp, monochord, rain stick and intuitive vocals to create an immersive, meditative environment. Guests are invited to settle in, listen and allow the sound and vibration to help ease tension and quiet the mind.

Mats, pillows, blankets and eye masks are provided, and comfortable clothing is recommended. Admission is $70, with advance reservations required.
Finish the Day Around the Table
After a day outdoors, Father’s Day dinner at ShadowRock Tap + Table offers a satisfying finish at Hilton Sedona Resort at Bell Rock. From 4 to 10 p.m. on June 21, the restaurant will serve a special dinner featuring slow-roasted rosemary prime rib with creamy horseradish, a loaded baked potato, seasonal vegetables and turtle cheesecake with raspberry sauce.

The dinner is priced at $68 per person, plus tax and gratuity, with a Father’s Day signature cocktail available separately. ShadowRock’s outdoor setting includes fire pits, water features and lawn games, making it an easy place to linger after dinner as the evening settles over the red rocks. Reservations are recommended.
Make the Celebration Mean a Little More
Father’s Day also marks the final day of the Mother’s and Father’s Day Diaper Drive, organized by Wrapped in Love Diaper Bank.
The fourth annual drive runs through June 21 at collection locations across Yavapai County, with a goal of gathering 50,000 diapers and other essential products for local families and vulnerable community members.
Adding a package of diapers, wipes or personal-care supplies to the weekend plans is a simple way to recognize the work fathers and caregivers do every day while helping another family in the community.
Give Dad a Day Worth Remembering
The best Father’s Day gifts rarely remain in a box. They become the morning the family floated over Sedona, the fish Dad insists was much larger, the river trip that ended in a soaking-wet group photo or the quiet afternoon everyone managed to spend together without checking the time.
Choose an experience that fits his idea of a good day, make reservations early and give him what he probably wanted in the first place: time together and a story worth retelling.
