Trail & Creek Closures - Update
The Pocket Fire is 100% contained. Some trails, recreation sites and creek areas remain closed due to post-fire hazards. Visitors are encouraged to review current closures and conditions before heading out.
The Pocket Fire is now 100% contained and remains at 27,393 acres. Sedona is open and operating normally, State Route 89A is open between Sedona and Interstate 17, and surrounding communities remain at READY status. Fire activity has subsided, with remaining work focused on patrol, suppression repair and recovery.
As of 6 a.m. Friday, July 31, the broad Pocket Fire closure has been significantly reduced and replaced by narrower temporary closures affecting specific trails, recreation sites and drainage areas. The following trails will remain closed for public safety:
Bear Sign Trail #59
David Miller Trail #164
Dry Creek Trail #52
HS Canyon Trail #50
Secret Canyon Trail #121
West Fork Trail #108
The following recreation sites will also remain closed:
Banjo Bill Picnic Site
Bootlegger Picnic Site
Call of the Canyon
Encinoso Picnic Site
Grasshopper Point Picnic Site
Halfway Picnic Site
Manzanita Campground
Portions of Oak Creek remain closed within 100 feet of either side of the creek, beginning where Oak Creek enters National Forest land north of Call of the Canyon Picnic Site and continuing south to where the creek exits National Forest land and enters private property. The closure also includes National Forest land within 100 feet of either side of the West Fork of Oak Creek drainage, beginning at Forest Road 231 and continuing east to its confluence with Oak Creek.
Slide Rock State Park: The park remains accessible by vehicle, but the Oak Creek swim area is closed until October 1 due to post-fire flash-flood and debris-flow risks. Walk-in, bicycle and drop-off entry is not permitted.
These closures remain in place because recently burned watersheds may be vulnerable to flash flooding, rapidly rising water, falling trees, ash, sediment and debris flows, particularly during monsoon storms.
The previous broad Pocket Fire closure has been superseded by two narrower temporary closure orders. Only the trails, recreation sites and drainage areas listed above remain closed under these orders.
