2017 Events

AUGUST

August 18, 2017:
cowboy-saddle-160x80Sedona Family Foot Rodeo – 4-7 p.m. at Posse Grounds Park. Come and celebrate the history of Posse Grounds Park! Join us for a fun evening of live entertainment by the Dan and Dave Rice Band and the Red Rock Posse cowboys. Have some fun with history, try out bounce horse barrel racing, mechanical bull riding, dummy calf roping, inflatable wild cow milking, pony rides and a petting zoo! All free! Food for sale!


August 26, 2017:

bike-brew-160x80SEDONA BIKE & BREW – Sedona Golf Resort is hosting the 4th Annual Sedona Bike & Brew – an event that is the first of its kind – a Mountain Bike Race that is hosted on a golf course!  Held August 26, things will be switched up a bit this year.  Racing will be hosted on Saturday afternoon.  Then on Sunday morning, organized group rides will be leaving hourly and will be organized by ability, distance and difficulty.  Join the fun!

 

SEPTEMBER

September 8-16, 2017:

Red Rocks Music Festival logoRED ROCKS MUSIC FESTIVAL presents its 16th season, September 8th- September 16th, 2017. Featuring: Dueling Piano Divas performing ” Americana Treasured Masterpieces”, Gitarinet from Serbia in Classical, Jazz and World Music,  “Classical Jewels” and ” Tempest to the Silver Age”. Sedona Creative Life Center, 333 Schenbly  Hill Rd, Sedona.

September 9, 2017:
fiesta-del-tlaq-160x8045th ANNUAL FIESTA DE TLAQUEPAQUE – Join the 45th annual “Fiesta del Tlaquepaque,” a celebration of Mexican Independence Day, September 9, 2017 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Continuing a long tradition of fabulous food, music, dance and entertainment for young and old, this year’s Fiesta promises to be extraordinary. The lively mariachis, the heart pounding beats of Flamenco dancers, and, mouthwatering tastes of Mexico will fill the day. Admission is free and there is a free Trolley service from Sedona Municipal parking lot-260 Schnebly Road.

September 16, 2017:
sedona-family-fun-day-160x80SEDONA AIRPORT FAMILY FUN DAY – Sedona Airport will host a family fun day on September 16 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. See lots of really cool aircraft – from old military, antiques and restored to new, modern, state of the art aircraft with full glass cockpits. Walk and talk with pilots and learn about the world of aviation.

September 23-24, 2017:

Welcome to the 9th Annual Sedona Winefest! We invite you to enjoy fabulous Arizona wines,  tasty food, live music, and vendors galore while enjoying the breathtaking panoramic views of the majestic red rocks. This year the Winefest takes place on Saturday and Sunday September 23 – 24 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Posse Grounds Park in the heart of Sedona.

OCTOBER

October 7-8, 2017:

– Held on the campus of Sedona Red Rock High School – A favorite in the Southwest, the festival showcases 126 juried artists, the Gourmet Gallery, an international guest artist, and KidZone, as well as great music, food, and raffle prizes. Admission supports arts education in our community.

October 14-21, 2017:
plein-air-160x80SEDONA PLEIN AIR FESTIVAL – Sedona Arts Center invites you along to get creative and experience over two dozen master painters in action—making their art on location in beautiful Sedona, Arizona. Celebrate creativity with us and enjoy receptions, exhibitions, lectures, and opportunities to collect your next masterpiece at Sedona Plein Air Festival! Our community’s iconic creative event—Sedona Plein Air Festival—is a week-long celebration of extraordinary landscapes, world-renowned artists, unique workshops, and wonderful free events.

October 21, 2017:
pumpkin-splash-160x80PUMPKIN SPLASH – From 1:00–3:00 p.m. – Bring your bathing suit and join your friends at the best pumpkin patch in Sedona! The Sedona Community Pool will be home to pumpkins ready for the picking… Out of the water that is! This unique event is fun for all ages. There will also be some classics and some new games for kids on the pool deck to play and compete in.  Everyone entering the pool facility, adults and children alike, must pay a $5 entry fee, which includes a pumpkin to take home.

sedona-oktoberfest-logo-480x320RED ROCKS OKTOBER FEST – CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL – Oktoberfest will support many local causes and will benefit the Rotary Club of Sedona Red Rocks and our efforts within the community. This event is produced by and benefits The Rotary Club of Sedona Red Rocks, a local charitable organization whose purpose is to demonstrate “Service Above Self.” Oktoberfest will support many local causes and will benefit the Rotary Club of Sedona Red Rocks and our efforts within the community.

shm-arts-crafts-160x80FALL ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW AT THE SEDONA HERITAGE MUSEUM 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., free. This show is an old-fashioned arts and crafts show like you remember them to be. All items are hand-made. The artist or craftsman sits behind each table to personally tell you how they make their pieces, where they find their unusual materials or what inspires them. Many of these people do only this show or a very limited number of other shows making their items unusual and uncommon.

October 24-28, 2017:
mural-marigold-project-160x80The MURAL MARIGOLD PROJECT for DIA DE LOS MUERTOS – Participate in creating this amazing public mural in the Calle Independencia where visitors and community members can honor the loss of loved ones in their lives and connect with one another though art and public expression. All week the public is invited to paint on the mural 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village. Free.

October 29, 2017:
dia-de-los-muertos-160x80DIA DE LOS MUERTOS CELEBRATION at Tlaquepaque
Join us in the courtyards on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 2:00- 8:00 p.m. to make an offering at the Celebration of Dia de los Muertos. Music, food and beautiful altars will be on view.  Watch fire dancers and visit our thematic face painting booths. Costumes are encouraged. Ofrenda or Offering, in the traditional Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos, is created to remember the dead and to honor ancestors.

31st ANNUAL SAFE AND FUN TRICK OR TREAT – In Uptown Sedona, October 31 from 5:00-8:00 p.m., merchants welcome ghouls and ghosts at storefronts for treats! Costume contests by age group; community dance performance. Free event presented by the City of Sedona plus Costume Contest in partnership with Uptown Merchants.

November 11, 2017:

Presented by Sedona Running Company. The start and finish will be at Posse Grounds Park in Sedona, AZ.

SEDONA’S TREE LIGHTING & SANTA VISIT – On Friday, December 1, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Canyon Breeze Plaza in Uptown, enjoy the Tree-lighting, refreshments, local entertainment and Santa visits with children. Free event presented by Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau.

December 2, 2017:

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA – Sedona Parks and Recreation is pleased to invite you to our Annual Breakfast with Santa event! This two hour event combines a warm breakfast and Santa Claus! This event will be held at the Sedona Hub in Posse Grounds Park. After breakfast, children can enjoy making winter crafts, as well as sitting on Santa’s lap. This event is free of charge, so come for the pancakes (and more), come for the crafts, and most of all, come to see Santa Claus!

December 2-3, 2017:
nutcracker-480x320THE NUTCRACKER – The Phoenix Ballet and Sedona Chamber Ballet will present breathtaking performances of The Nutcracker on December 2-3 at the Sedona Performing Arts Center. Enjoy a Nutcracker production with professional sets, costumes and, most importantly, internationally acclaimed, award winning dancers.

 

December 9, 2017:
festival-of-lights-160x80THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS-The Lighting of 6,000 Luminarias – Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. This one day event – A cherished tradition which involves visitors and locals to help light six thousand luminarias in Tlaquepaque’s courtyards and walkways at 5:00 p.m. Entertainment abounds with carolers, choirs and musicians. Specially designated Luminarias honoring  cancer survivors can be purchased.

 

December 16, 2017:

– The 13th Annual Sedona Marathon Event will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018. The Sedona Marathon Event will feature four distances sure to take your breath away: 5K, 10K, Half, and Full Marathon. This scenic race attracts athletes from around the globe to enjoy Sedona’s red rocks up close and personal. “If the scenery doesn’t take your breath away, the hills will!”

The Sedona MTB Festival is 3-day mountain bike celebration that will include a Main Expo/Festival, Bike Demos, Shuttled Rides, a Beer Garden, great Bands for (3) nights and a whole lotta sweet RED SINGLETRACK!
March 8-11, 2018:

sedona-stumble-160x80Sedona Stumble 5-Mile Trail RunSaturday, TBD at 9:00 a.m. – Sedona’s FIRST and ONLY trail race! Race through the dirt trails of Posse Grounds Park! Registration includes a free race water bottle. All finishers will receive a medal and age group trophies will be awarded. $30 registration per person.

March 31, 2018:

– This is much more than just an egg hunt, this is a Celebration of Spring! Join us March 31 from 9:00 a.m.– 12:00 p.m. for this fun, action packed event for families and all those in the community that enjoy spring and the beautiful outdoors. Inflatable toys for kids, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, carnival rides, duck races and much more are included with the admission fee for the youth attendees. $5 for attendees 12 and younger.

tween-160x80CELEBRATION OF TWEEN –  With the rides all set up for the Celebration of Spring event, we thought why not invite the bigger kids to play in the afternoon! Children ages 10-14 (5-8 grade) are invited to play at this event from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Try out the inflatable indoor laser tag and more! $5 admission fee for youth attendees.

APRIL

April 6-10, 2018:
connie-kupka-david-speltz-160x80SEDONA SPRING MUSIC FESTIVAL – The Speltz family, cellist David Speltz and violinist Connie Kupka, are two of Los Angeles’ most respected artists who perform on a regular basis in the Los Angeles studios, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the California Chamber Symphony Society.  For more details, read here.

April 9, 2018:

Mix and mingle with 12 artists and craftsmen from Provence right here in Tlaquepaque on Saturday, April 8 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. during a fabulous free day of cultural exchange and a delight for all of your senses. Listen to the music and vocals from three outstanding French bands with songs in French and English. Watch as a master glass worker creates one-of-a-kind stunning glass beads and other objects of art. Experience live demonstrations of painting and drawing with a decidedly French flair. Taste delicious wines from the award winning wine country in Provence along with tasty little bites by a French chef.

April 12-15, 2018:

– by top neuroscientists – an annual meeting that reflects research derived from multiple fields of brain science.  The purpose of the meeting is to advance the attendees’ understanding of both foundational neuroscience and advanced translational topics with the goal of improving brain health, clinical interventions and cures.

 

April 27-29, 2018:
open-studio-160x80SEDONA OPEN STUDIOS TOUR – Free, self-guided event celebrating the arts in the greater Verde Valley that runs from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily. The tour provides a unique opportunity to meet over 50 artists in their private studios, working in a variety of mediums. Maps and informative brochures will be available in a number of locations or at our website. May 5, 2018:
cinco-de-mayo-160x80CINCO DE MAYO CELEBRATION AT TLAQUEPAQUEImmerse yourself in a colorful Fiesta saluting a rich heritage on Saturday, May 5, 2018 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Tlaquepaque. Enjoy the festivities while cheering and whistling to the music of mariachi musicians, clapping to the steps of Folklorico dancers and savoring traditional Mexican food.  Admission is free and there is a free trolley service from the Sedona Municipal parking lot-260 Schnebly Road.

chili-cook-off-logo-rotary-160x80GREAT SEDONA CHILI COOK-OFF – The Rotary Club of Sedona’s annual fundraiser, The Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off is on the Saturday of the Cinco de Mayo weekend at Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. All proceeds from the Chili Cook-Off are used for local and international Rotary Club of Sedona Projects, including the Imagination Library.

May 11, 2018:
12x1212×12 EXHIBITION & FUNDRAISER
– Sedona Arts Center is proud to present the 4th Annual 12×12 Exhibition and Fundraiser on May 11, 2018. The 12×12 Exhibition and Fundraiser showcases over 100 artists who have taken on the challenge of producing an original work within the confines of a twelve-inch by twelve-inch space (or 12x12x12 for three-dimensional work). Each twelve-inch by twelve-inch piece of artwork is priced at only $250!  This event is free and begins at 5:30 p.m.

JULY

July 27-29, 2018:

– International Hummingbird Society presents the annual celebration of hummingbirds. The event is three days of engaging presentations by nationally recognized hummingbird experts in the fields of science, gardening, rehabilitation, banding, storytelling, and more. Festival highlights include Sunrise Hummingbird Breakfasts at known ‘hummingbird hotspots,’ hummingbird garden tours, hummingbird banding demonstrations, and a marketplace for nature/hummingbird-themed merchandise.
