'Third Person' and 'A Five Star Life' Film Premieres

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premieres of the acclaimed new award-winning independent films “Third Person” and “A Five Star Life” showing Aug. 22-26 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. THIRD PERSON An all-star ensemble cast is featured in “Third Person”, including: Leam Neeson, Adrien Brody, James Franco, Olivia Wilde, Kim Basinger, Maria Bello and Mila Kunis. “Third Person” tells three stories of love, passion, trust and betrayal, in a multi-strand story line reminiscent of Paul Haggis’s earlier Oscar-winning film “Crash”. The tales play out in New York, Paris and Rome: three couples who appear to have nothing related but share deep commonalities: lovers and estranged spouses, children lost and found. Michael (Liam Neeson) is a Pulitzer Prize-winning fiction author who has holed himself up in a hotel suite in Paris to finish his latest book. He recently left his wife, Elaine (Kim Basinger), and is having a tempestuous affair with Anna (Olivia Wilde), an ambitious young journalist who wants to write and publish fiction. At the same time, Scott (Adrien Brody), a shady American businessman, is in Italy to steal designs from fashion houses. Hating everything Italian, Scott wanders into the “Café Americano” in search of something familiar to eat. There, he meets Monika (Moran Atias), a beautiful Roma woman, who is about to be reunited with her young daughter. When the money she has saved to pay her daughter’s smuggler is stolen, Scott feels compelled to help. They take off together for a dangerous town in Southern Italy, where Scott starts to suspect that he is the patsy in an elaborate con game. Julia (Mila Kunis), an ex-soap opera actress, is caught in a custody battle for her 6 year-old son with her ex-husband Rick (James Franco), a famous New York artist. With her support cut off and her legal costs ruinous, Julia is reduced to working as a maid in the same upscale boutique hotel where she was once a frequent guest. “Third Person” is much more than a collection of love stories: It is a mystery, a puzzle in which truth is revealed in glimpses, and clues are caught by the corner of the eye — and nothing is truly what it seems. Harper’s Bazaar calls “Third Person” a must-see. Pete Hammond from Movieline raves “Paul Haggis’ finest film since the Oscar-winning ‘Crash’ and his most personal. Liam Neeson is superb, and it is the most impressive ensemble cast of the year.” “Third Person” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Aug. 29-Sept. 2. Showtimes will be 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 29-30; and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 31-Sept. 2. A FIVE STAR LIFE “A Five Star Life” is the sophisticated story of one woman’s quest for personal and professional fulfillment set against some of the most stunning cities and opulent hotels of the world. The film features five extraordinary locations: Paris, Shanghai, Marrakesh, Berlin and Gstaad. Stylish and independent, Irene (Margherita Buy) is a single career woman in her forties with a job to die for. As a luxury hotel critic, she checks into the world’s finest establishments incognito to assess their standards, meticulously judging every detail from the concierge’s manners to the temperature of the food to the quality of the bedsheets. Her elegant, unattached lifestyle affords her the freedom to jet around the globe at a moment’s notice to experience a world of luxury, but doesn’t leave her with much of a personal life. On the rare occasions she’s not working, Irene’s world revolves around her absentminded sister Silvia (Fabrizia Sacchi), two lively young nieces, and best friend—and former lover — Andrea (Stefano Accorsi). But when Silvia begins to deal with marital problems and Andrea faces an unexpected life change, Irene’s small support network is fractured and she struggles to balance a glamorous career with the growing desire for something more. After a chance meeting shakes up her worldview even more, she’s compelled to reexamine her choices and charts her own path to happiness despite the expectations of others. Critics are calling “A Five Star Life” one of the best films of the year. Harvey Karten from ShowBiz raves “Delightful … blends comedy and drama in an exquisitely-acted roundelay of continental tourism. A five-star movie!” “A Five Star Life” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Aug. 29-Sept. 2. Showtimes will be 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 29-30; and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 31-Sept. 2. Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. “You're AMAZING, Andrew! We loved every minute so much that 3 hours flew by!”--A Fan

“You're AMAZING, Andrew! We loved every minute so much that 3 hours flew by!”--A Fan On Tuesday, September 2nd., you need to be at Maestro Andrew Sweeney's one man show, the Sedona Village Cabaret, at Marketplace Cafe'! Why? Read the posts of locals and tourists alike who praised Maestro Andrew's recent performance: “You're AMAZING, Andrew! We loved every minute so much that 3 hours flew by. We're already looking forward to next time. I'm happy Mary finally got to hear you!”--Suzy “So much fun!”--Sybil “O! M! G! I can't remember the last time I had this much fun. The cabaret was simply ridiculous fun tonight. So many thanks to Suzy, Bailey, Kathryn, Sybil, Henry, Leslie, Chris, Wendy, BJ, Katie, Ben, Cindy, Rosie, Caroline, Becky, Mary, Rose and Jack, Andre, and Ken Rouse and the entire staff at The Marketplace Café. What a night! The incredible feeling of love that circled around that room tonight was undeniable and powerful beyond words. And it's thanks to all of you who were there, sharing the joy and the music. I can't thank you all enough. This is what life is about.”--Drew One family from San Clemente, California, trekked all the way over to the Village of Oak Creek to hear Maestro Andrew. This Tuesday, you can hear the Maestro for yourself! Maestro Andrew, who earned his doctorate in Vocal Performance/ABD from UCLA, sings from many genres which is why every dinner theater performance is completely unique. This Tuesday, you might hear him sing: opera (“Nessun Dorma” from “Turandot”) pop (Lady Gaga's “Edge of Glory,” Madonna's “The Power of Good-Bye,” Cyndi Lauper's “Time after Time,” Christina Aguilera's “Beautiful”) rock (Three Dog Night, “Joy to the World,” Elton John, “That's Why They Call It the Blues”) Broadway (“Bring Him Home” from “Les Misérables," “All I Ask of You” and “Music of the Night” from "Phantom of the Opera") and play classic instrumentals (“Clair de Lune” by Debussy and “Méditation” from the opera, “Thais”). This is dinner theater at its best, bringing an entirely new level of entertainment to Sedona. The Sedona Village Cabaret meets the classic definition of a cabaret: a restaurant featuring great food, outstanding service, a vibrant community of friends, and high-class, eclectic music performed by an unbelievably talented musician, Maestro Andrew Sweeney. The Sedona Village Cabaret is all that and more! On Tuesday, Marketplace Café, which raised wine tasting to an art form, gives you the opportunity to sample some of their most wonderful wines at ridiculously reasonable prices--a paltry pittance of $4 for any house wine! Better yet--there is no cover charge! And the ambiance? It's the best in town! Marketplace Café creates a "sense of community" that brings locals and tourists together in a genuine "Cheers" atmosphere to CELEBRATE LIFE! Come over on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, for superb music by Maestro Andrew Sweeney, wonderful dinners, and $4 house wines! In case you are wondering, Maestro moved his Monday night Cabaret to Tuesday nights from 6-9 P.M. It's the same great show on a whole new night!

'Snowpiercer' Film Premiere

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present its premiere series with the one-night-only debut of the critically-acclaimed, audience sensation action thriller “Snowpiercer”. There will be two shows: Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the festival’s Mary D. Fisher Theatre. “Snowpiercer” features an all-star ensemble cast including Chris Evans, John Hurt, Jamie Bell, Ed Harris and Academy Award-winners Tilda Swinton and Octavia Spencer. It is directed by award-winning Korean director Bong Joon Ho in his first English-speaking feature film. The film deals with important, topical and timely global issues, including climate change. “Snowpiercer” begins with the unique premise that the Ice Age has returned and a train carrying the surviving members of the human race speeds on unabated. In a new Ice Age, where Earth has been frozen for 17 years, “Snowpiercer” is the only place for survivors. Climate change has made the planet uninhabitable. Those few who survived the planet's demise live aboard a train that perpetually circles the same track. The tail section is like a slum, filled with people who are cold and hungry, forced to live by their wits, while the front section contains the chosen few, who indulge in alcohol and drugs amid luxurious surroundings. The world inside the train is far from equal. In the 17th year of the train's infinite course, a young leader from the tail section stirs up a riot that has been brewing for some time. In order to liberate the tail section and eventually the whole train, this hero and his fellow passengers charge toward the engine located at the front of the train, where its creator, the absolute authority, resides in splendor. But unexpected circumstances lie in wait for humanity's tenacious survivors. “Snowpiercer” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 4 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.

'Ida' Film Premiere

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present its premiere series with the one-night-only debut of the award-winning, powerful drama “Ida”. There will be two shows: Thursday, Sept. 4 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the festival’s Mary D. Fisher Theatre. From acclaimed director Pawel Pawlikowski (Last Resort, My Summer of Love) comes “Ida”, a moving and intimate drama about a young novitiate nun in 1960s Poland who, on the verge of taking her vows, discovers a dark family secret dating from the years of the Nazi occupation. Eighteen-year-old Anna (stunning newcomer Agata Trzebuchowska), a sheltered orphan raised in a convent, is preparing to become a nun when the Mother Superior insists she first visit her sole living relative. Naïve, innocent Anna soon finds herself in the presence of her aunt Wanda (Agneta Kulesza), a worldly and cynical Communist Party insider, who shocks her with the declaration that her real name is Ida and her Jewish parents were murdered during the Nazi occupation. This revelation triggers a heart-wrenching journey into the countryside, to the family house and into the secrets of the repressed past, evoking the haunting legacy of the Holocaust and the realities of postwar Communism. In this beautifully directed film, Pawlikowski returns to his native Poland for the first time in his career to confront some of the more contentious issues in the history of his birthplace. Powerfully written and eloquently shot, “Ida” is a masterly evocation of a time, a dilemma, and a defining historical moment; “Ida” is also personal, intimate, and human. The weight of history is everywhere, but the scale falls within the scope of a young woman learning about the secrets of her own past. This intersection of the personal with momentous historic events makes for what is surely one of the most powerful and affecting films of the year. The critics all agree “Ida” is “a masterpiece — exquisite” (The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal and The New Republic). John Anderson from Newsday proclaims “Ida” is “likely to remain the best movie of the year!” A.O. Scott from The New York Times raves “It haunted me … I can’t wait to see it again!” And the Huffington Post calls it “riveting and sublime”. “Ida” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 4 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.

'Mood Indigo' and 'I Origins' Film Premieres

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premieres of the acclaimed new award-winning independent films “Mood Indigo” (a French romantic comedy) and “I Origins” (a new American drama) showing Sept. 5-9 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. MOOD INDIGO Audrey Tautou (Amélie; Coco Before Chanel) and Romain Duris star in the French romantic comedy “Mood Indigo”. Eminently inventive filmmaker Michel Gondry finds inspiration from French novelist Boris Vian's novel to create this visionary love story. Set in a charmingly surreal Paris, Duris plays wealthy bachelor Colin, whose hobbies include developing his pianocktail (a cocktailmaking piano) and devouring otherworldly dishes prepared by his trusty chef Nicolas (Omar Sy, The Untouchables). When Colin learns that his best friend Chick — a fellow acolyte of the philosopher JeanSol Partre — has a new American girlfriend, our lonely hero attends a friend’s party in hopes of falling in love himself. He soon meets Chloé (Tautou) and before they know it, they’re dancing to Duke Ellington and plunging headfirst into a romance that Gondry rapturously depicts as only he can. Their whirlwind courtship is tested when an unusual illness plagues Chloe; a flower begins to grow in her lungs. To save her, Colin discovers the only cure is to surround Chloe with a never-ending supply of fresh flowers. “Mood Indigo” — a hit with critics and audiences and hailed as a “visual feast for the senses” — was nominated for three 2014 César Awards (the French equivalent of the Academy Awards): Best Original Music, Best Costume and Best Production Design. “Mood Indigo” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Sept. 5-9. Showtimes will be 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6; 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7; and 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 8-9. I ORIGINS “I Origins” — the second feature film from writer and director Mike Cahill — tells the story of Dr. Ian Gray (Michael Pitt), a molecular biologist studying the evolution of the eye. He finds his work permeating his life after a brief encounter with an exotic young woman (Astrid Bergès-Frisbey) who slips away from him. As his research continues years later with his lab partner Karen (Brit Marling), they make a stunning scientific discovery that has far reaching implications and complicates both his scientific and spiritual beliefs. Traveling half way around the world, he risks everything he has ever known to validate his theory. Like Cahill’s first film (2011 Sundance Film Festival winner “Another Earth”), “I Origins” is a personal and unconventional exploration of the mysteries of the scientific world. He calls his the film both a molecular-biology thriller and a love story. “For generations, the eyes have been called the windows to the soul,” explains Cahill. “Think about it,” he says. “We each possess these magnificent artworks on the front of our face. They are all beautiful, if you look very closely at them.” “I Origins” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Sept. 5-9. Showtimes will be 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6; and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 7-9. Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. AZ Rhythm & Ribs Country Music Festival

2013 the AZ Rhythm & Ribs event saw major changes, bringing in professional competitive barbecue teams from around the nation and three (3) national acts, Country: Eric Paslay & Keith Anderson, to Southern Rock Jimmie Van Zant. AZ Rhythm & Ribs also teamed up with Homes from Our Troops a 501(c)3 organization to help raise money for a local Cottonwood Vet, Sgt Jordan Maynard, by raising over $4000 during a live auction of autographed guitars from the national acts. This year the AZ Rhythm & Ribs has changed its name to AZ Rhythm & Ribs Country Music Festival. The event has been selected as one of the tour stops for the Great American Cookout, along with 25 professional BBQ competitors; AZ Rhythm & Ribs has become a hot spot for professional BBQ teams, so we are an official Arizona State BBQ Championship. We will be introducing great young country artists like, Benton Blount, Logan Brill, Walker McGuire and American Idol Casey James; many more names will be joining us over the next few months. Children of Beauty: The Art of Sharon Brening

Turquoise Tortoise Gallery opens “Children of Beauty: The Art of Sharon Brening,” and welcomes the gifted artist to town for a 1st Friday reception on the 5th, from 5-8 pm. In 2011 Brening became the first woman to win the prestigious gold medal award for oil painting at the Annual Western Artists of America Show and Sale in Texas, an honor her long-time collectors could have predicted given the skill she brings to her portraits of Native American children. Brening journeys repeatedly to Navajo land, Hopi and pueblos in New Mexico where she has formed lasting friendships. “I feel driven to continue painting the stories of the Native Americans that I have come to know as friends and help to preserve their rich heritage,” Brening notes. Several of her subjects have been models for Brening throughout their young lives. Brening herself began her artistic studies as a child; college brought classes in anatomy and life drawing that perfected her skills. “I want the viewer to feel like my subject could walk right out of my canvas,” Brening explains. Brening paints from the wealth of photographs she takes to document each detail of dress and expression of character on her models. Each portrait sold helps compensate the model’s family. “Children of Beauty: The Art of Sharon Brening” runs through September 14. Visit the gallery’s Facebook page for exhibition photos and plenty of gallery information. Labors of Love

He got his start as a drywall finisher by day and taxidermist by night, but for the past 20 years, Ken Rowe has been a full-time award-winning bronze sculptor (and part-time thrill seeker). Salute Ken during Labors of Love at Rowe Fine Art Gallery on Sept. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. Join other local artists and collectors for hors d’oeuvres and wine as everyone toasts this amazing artist. Rowe Gallery will look back at Ken’s illustrious career and preview some of his upcoming sculptures, including a pre-cast polar bear inspired by Ken’s adventures in Alaska in July. “I returned to Alaska for the first time in five years this summer,” says Ken. “I had the chance to sculpt at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage where they have an immense male polar bear and a beautiful female polar bear. And then there’s Molly, this astonishing snow leopard. I started sculpting a life-size bust of her five years ago, and I got the opportunity to add some final touches this summer. It was quite the experience.” Ken was born and raised in Phoenix to an engineer father and an artist mother. In 1995, he and his wife Monica relocated to Sedona where Ken exhibited at a local gallery owned by one of his idols, sculptor Ken Payne. Ken and Monica opened their first gallery, Rowe Fine Art, in Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village in 2010. Ken’s work is exhibited in the gallery alongside some of the finest southwestern painters and sculptors. Ken is also a member of Society of Animal Artists.

Sticks: Joyful Art Furniture

“Sticks: Joyful Art Furniture” opens at Lanning Gallery with a 1st Friday reception, September 5th from 5-8 pm, to showcase the line of handmade, hand-painted furniture that always brings smiles to gallery visitors. The collaboration of artists that is Sticks has made a national name for itself creating everything from colorful Lazy Susans to benches, nesting tables, dining tables and more, with a variety of palettes and designs. At Lanning Gallery collectors purchase right off the floor or take advantage of the staff’s expertise with custom orders. “Our Lazy Susans sell out almost as quickly as they come in,” notes Gallery Director, Isabelle Cozart, “and we have a brand-new round dining table with chairs because the last one just sold. But the real fun comes with custom orders; we probably work on at least two a month.” Each piece of Sticks furniture is completely handmade by its talented artisans. Some work on the designs, some the carving, others the leatherwork or hand painting. Yet these pieces are meant to be lived with as well and are thoroughly protected with finishes that keep them very user-friendly. All paints and finishes used are water-based and non-toxic. Sticks creates art to be not only admired but interacted with as well; and, most importantly, to brighten a day. “Sticks: Joyful Art Furniture” through September 14th. Deception, Lies & Alibis

Deception, Lies & Alibis" with Michael Peach features his unique blend of original cowboy poetry with a tongue-in-cheek look at Arizona and local history. "Strange tales have been told by those who rode Arizona's rugged trails. And sometimes a fact ain't exactly exact when you scrutinize details." Or, so says award-winning actor, playwright and historian Michael Peach in his new show for 2014. Mike spins tales using jokes, stories, first person narrative, and original poems to explore the colorful history of our state. "If whiskey was their quest, men knew that the best came from Bill's still outside of Sedona." But, women of the West aren't ignored in his new show. "Fashion demands the ultimate price, ranchers wrangle a dragon, a con man rides a tornado, a super-powered horse gets distracted, and a frustrated businesswoman gets a leg up on the law."

At the Cabaret, you will hear everything from the stupendous opera aria, “Nessun Dorma” from “Turandot” to Three Dog Night's “Joy to the World!” Maestro Andrew Sweeney has spent more than 22 years training for just this moment at the Sedona Village Cabaret. After earning his bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance from the esteemed music department at Chapman University in California, Maestro Andrew Sweeney continued his graduate education in Vocal Performance at UCLA where he earned his doctorate (ABD). As a professional opera singer, he sung at the Los Angeles Music Center Opera and world famous tenor, Plácido Domingo. As an operatic tenor, Andrew Sweeney has sung roles in Amahl and the Night Visitors, The Barber of Seville, Billy Budd, La Boheme, Carmen, Die Fledermaus, Falstaff, Iolanthe, Les Mamelles de Tiresias, Le Pauvre Matelot, The Rake's Progress, La Scala di Seta, Susannah, La Tabernera del Puerto, The Tales of Hoffman, Tosca, and Turn of the Screw. He sang the title role in Benjamin Britten's "St. Nicholas Cantata" and sang roles in concerts of Carl Orff’s "Carmina Burana" and "Catulli Carmina," Handel’s "Messiah," and Roger Bourland's world premiere of "Rosarium." In 2003, Maestro Andrew was a Regional Finalist in the prestigious National Metropolitan Council Auditions for young opera singers. As a tenor soloist, he earned awards from The National Metropolitan Opera Council, The Wagner Society, The Leni Fe Bland Foundation, and The National Association of Teachers of Singing. To hone his skills, he participated in master classes with renowned teachers such as Horst Gunter, Frans Boerlage, Thomas Hampson, Dawn Upshaw, Martin Katz, and Carol Van Ness. In 2005, Andrew Sweeney became the Artistic Director of Bel Canto Alaska. With various musical organizations, he has served as the Executive Associate Artistic Director, the Artistic Director, opera conductor, musical director, stage director, artistic director, guest chorus, choral director, oratorio, voice teacher, arranger, and composer. For many years, Maestro Andrew served as the Executive Associate Artistic Director for the Anchorage Opera, one of America’s leading regional opera companies. In February 2009, Maestro Andrew gained national attention after stepping in for the conductor who was ill. Long story short, Andrew Sweeney successfully conducted the opera, The Barber of Seville, won triumphant reviews, and earned the title “Maestro.” In 2010, Maestro Andrew conducted The Power of Love at the Anchorage Opera. In addition, he has served as director for performing groups such as the Bel Canto Singers of Alaska and the Anchorage Concert Chorus. One of the region's leading musical authorities, Andrew Sweeney is a highly regarded champion of the performing arts. As a distinguished clinician and adjudicator, he makes numerous appearances at local events each year. He offers private lessons as well as master classes for singers who wish to improve their skills. As a performer, Maestro Andrew Sweeney has a vast repertoire. For this reason, each dinner theater show is unique. Maestro Andrew utilizes his gloriously trained, rich tenor voice to float lyrically over the notes in everything from an Adele song celebrating love to one of Elton John's classic rock break-up songs. He impressed his audience by flawlessly handling selections from “Les Misérables” and “Phantom of the Opera,” as well as Lady Gaga and Puccini. In addition, he showcased his keyboarding artistry by playing several instrumental pieces which were exquisitely beautiful. Moonlight Hike

The Moonlight Hike is among the most popular interpretive hikes at the Park. Led by a naturalist, it gives hikers the rare opportunity to enjoy the sunset and moon rise from an overlook and return by the light of the moon, while also having the chance to learn about Sedona and its surrounding areas. Verde Valley and park history, as well as archeology, geology, botany, and riparian wildlife information, is also offered by a knowledgeable guide. The hike lasts two to 2 1/2 hours and covers a distance of approximately two miles. A $5.00 non-refundable reservation fee is required as well as an entry fee upon arrival ($5.00 per adult (14 and up) $3.00 per youth (7-13), and free for children (0-6)). Rangers ask hikers to please arrive approximately 30 minutes before the starting time to insure participation. Program fees are non-refundable unless the park must cancel the hike after your arrival. Wear suitable clothing and shoes (prepare for cool nights) and bring water, a flashlight and insect spray.

'Duran Duran: Unstage' Concert Film Premiere

The iconic British rock band Duran Duran will take over US movie theaters — including the Mary D. Fisher Theatre in Sedona — on Wednesday, Sept. 10 for a one-night-only showing of the film “Duran Duran: Unstaged”. This movie showcases the band’s concert at the Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles, which was part of the American Express Unstaged concert series that celebrated the band’s “All You Need Is Now” album and world tour. Screenvision in alliance with Phase 4 Films will screen the film in over 300 locations. The film was directed by award-winning filmmaker David Lynch (The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, and Mulholland Drive). Known for his unique cinematic style that masterfully blends extraordinary imagery and sound design, Lynch has captured the band’s performance in a ground-breaking, creative way that will provide fans with a visually stunning in-theater viewing experience. “Duran Duran: Unstaged” features all four original members of Duran Duran: Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor. The band performs 18 songs, including “Hungry Like the Wolf”, “A View to Kill”, “Ordinary World” and “Rio.” Special guests include Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance), Beth Ditto (Gossip), Kelis and long-time collaborator, Mark Ronson. The film is quite unlike any concert-doc experience ever put on screen. “Duran Duran: Unstaged” is a dream collaboration that presents the band’s energy and Lynch’s playful interventions on the grand scale they so uniquely merit. “We are all very proud to have worked in partnership with the legendary David Lynch on this project. It was a tremendously rewarding and exhilarating experience,” said Simon Le Bon. “David is a visionary artist, his work is always surprising and beautifully strange – so it was a surreal dream collaboration for us to work with him and to become the subjects of one of his films,” said Nick Rhodes. “When we first discussed the notion of working together, we bonded over a shared desire to create a truly unique live film. I felt confident we could rely upon David to conjure up something stylish, experimental, handmade and innovative. He surpassed all of our wildest expectations.” Duran Duran is one of the most ground-breaking British bands of the last three decades. With over 100 million records sold, 30 UK Top 20 hits, 18 American hit singles, and six prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement Awards’, Duran Duran has shown that throughout the years, they continue to thrill with the same venerable vigor and enthusiasm of their earliest records, delivering to fans the songs they remember and new ones to love with the creative momentum to propel them into the next decade and beyond. There will be one show only of “Duran Duran: Unstaged” on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 general admission and $12.50 for Film Festival members and students. Visit www.SedonaFilmFestival.org for tickets and performance information or call 928-282-1177. Both the Sedona International Film Festival Office and the Mary D. Fisher Theatre are located at 2030 W. NY's 92 Y: The Real Wolf of Wall Street

New York’s famous 92nd Street Y returns to Sedona for the new fall season on Wednesday, Sept. 10 when the Sedona International Film Festival hosts “The Real Wolf of Wall Street” featuring Jordan Belfort, Daniel Alonso and Kelly Evens, moderated by Thane Rosenbaum. The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. at the festival’s Mary D. Fisher Theatre, live as it is happening in New York. Jordan Belfort shot to notoriety with the release of the Martin Scorsese film “The Wolf of Wall Street”. Convicted in 1999 of securities fraud and money laundering, he served 22 months in jail and was ordered to pay restitution for his crimes. Thane Rosenbaum leads a discussion with Belfort, former Asst. U.S. Attorney Daniel Alonso and CNBC’s “Closing Bell” co-anchor Kelly Evans about the law, business and culture of Wall Street and what happens — or should happen — when laws governing the public market for securities are violated. Jordan Belfort is a former Wall Street stockbroker, motivational speaker and author of two bestselling memoirs, The Wolf of Wall Street and Catching the Wolf of Wall Street. His books have been published in seventy-five countries and translated into twenty-five different languages. In the 1990s, Jordan Belfort built one of the most dynamic and successful sales organizations in Wall Street history. During that time, he soared to the highest financial heights, earning over $50 million a year, a feat that coined him the name “The Wolf of Wall Street.”As the owner of Stratton Oakmont, Belfort employed over 1,000 stockbrokers and raised over $1.5 billion and started more than 30 million-dollar-companies from scratch. Along the way, he succumbed to some of the traps of the high-flying Wall Street lifestyle, going through a spectacular — and well-publicized — fall from grace. Taking invaluable lessons from the mistakes he made and the prices he paid, he has re-emerged as a globally recognized potent force behind extraordinary business success. Belfort travels globally as a motivational speaker and consultant on sales and wealth-building strategy. He is also frequent guest-commentator on various news outlets, including CNN, CNBC, Headlines News and BBC. Daniel R. Alonso is Managing Director and General Counsel at Exiger LLC, where he works on integrity monitorships and internal investigations, and advises clients on solutions related to anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, governance, risk and compliance. Alonso, who served for nine years in the United States Attorney's Office, is a four-time recipient of the Justice Department's Director's Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and has received the Henry L. Stimson Medal, given by the Association of the Bar of the City of New York to outstanding Assistant U.S. Attorneys. Kelly Evans is co-anchor of CNBC's "Closing Bell." She joined the network in February 2012 as an on-air correspondent, reporting across CNBC's business day programming. Previously, Evans was co-anchor of CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" as well as co-anchor of CNBC's "Worldwide Exchange" based in London. Prior to CNBC, Evans was a reporter and columnist for The Wall Street Journal, penning the influential "Ahead of the Tape" column and writing for "Heard on the Street." She also hosted the daily "News Hub" program on WSJ.com and was a frequent guest on television and radio networks, including CNBC. Evans joined the Journal in 2007 as a reporter covering real estate and economics. Thane Rosenbaum is a novelist and Senior Fellow at NYU School of Law, the author of numerous books of fiction and nonfiction along with essays in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Huffington Post and the Daily Beast, among other publications. He also directs the Forum on Law, Culture & Society. Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. Tickets are available in advance at the festival office. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. Call 928-282-1177 for tickets and information or visit www.SedonaFilmFestival.org .

'Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret' Film Premiere

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present its premiere series with the one-night-only debut of the award-winning documentary “Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret”. There will be two shows: Thursday, Sept. 11 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the festival’s Mary D. Fisher Theatre. “Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret” is a groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary following intrepid filmmaker Kip Andersen as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world's leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, water consumption and pollution, is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry, and is a primary driver of rainforest destruction, species extinction, habitat loss, topsoil erosion, ocean "dead zones," and virtually every other environmental ill. Yet it goes on, almost entirely unchallenged. As Andersen approaches leaders in the environmental movement, he increasingly uncovers what appears to be an intentional refusal to discuss the issue of animal agriculture, while industry whistleblowers and watchdogs warn him of the risks to his freedom and even his life if he dares to persist. As eye-opening as “Blackfish” and as inspiring as “An Inconvenient Truth”, this shocking yet humorous documentary reveals the absolutely devastating environmental impact large-scale factory farming has on our planet, and offers a path to global sustainability for a growing population. “Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 4 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Nationa Association of Women Business Owners- Monthly Luncheon

National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) would like to invite you to our monthly networking luncheon. This is a unique personal and business opportunity for women business owners to celebrate their entrepreneurial excellence and to meet your peers here in our community. At each luncheon we have networking exercises and a speaker who will engage you with lessons you can use to grow your business. September 11th, 2014 From Adversity to Accomplishment Lessons for Life, Business, and Academia Cinthia Manjarrez will be talking about all the elements that one needs to succeed in business and in LIFE: determination, dedication, focus, sacrifice and education. Cinthia feels her journey from incredible adversity to her current accomplishments can be attributed to her journey. Had she been born privileged, Cinthia might not have had the qualities that have contributed to her success. Tenacity: my determination to never give up Sacrifice: my knowledge that hard work is a must Resilience: my ability to bounce back So often our trials are what give us our passion and purpose. Cinthia will be using her three talking points as well as some of the ATHENA Leadership Model that our members are already familiar with. As an inspiring young woman, Cinthia will humble us with her vision and dedication. About Cinthia Manjarrez Cinthia is a Barrett Honors College scholar at ASU. Born in California, she is the daughter of former migrant workers. Her mother, who was undocumented, cared for migrant worker’s children as a form of income while Cinthia’s father was incarcerated. Throughout her father’s incarceration, Cinthia faced incredible obstacles and poverty that proved life would not be easy. Throughout these obstacles, she found solace in her school’s classrooms. She dedicated all her time and energy into her education. Upon her father’s release from prison and subsequent deportation, the entire family moved to a rural town in Mexico. Once again, Cinthia found comfort in books and quickly learned how to speak, read and write in Spanish. Two years later, she decided to move back to the US to further her education, although it meant leaving her family behind. To Cinthia, education is worth every sacrifice. At the age of 13 she moved to Ajo, Arizona where she graduated Valedictorian of the class of 2012. As a High school student Cinthia participated in Student Government, Student Council (President), National Honor Society, Book Club, Tech Club, History Club, Drama Club, Support Group, Peer Mentoring, Volleyball, Basketball, Track and Field and Baseball.Through her hard work, determination and focus, Cinthia obtained a full ride scholarship to ASU where she is entering her junior year, pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Justice Studies. The Sedona Village Cabaret Feels like “Cheers” and Sounds Like Pavarotti!

Like the show “Cheers,” Marketplace Café's Sedona Village Cabaret is creating a "sense of community" that brings locals and tourists together to CELEBRATE LIFE. Staring Maestro Andrew Sweeney, who sang opera for Plácido Domingo at the Los Angeles Music Center Opera, the Cabaret sounds like Pavarotti! The Sedona Village Cabaret becomes more fun each week! If you haven't made it yet, you should! With $4 glasses of wine and an affordable food special, Marketplace gives you dinner and a show for less than $20. But more than anything, it's a great time! Maestro Andrew Sweeney and Ken Rouse (owner of Marketplace Café) love watching people leave with smiles on their faces that are bigger than when they walked in. Come on out to The Marketplace Cafe, where on Cabaret Tuesdays, it "feels like 'Cheers' and sounds like Pavarotti." And yes, Maestro Andrew can sing the repertoire of Pavarotti, one of the world's greatest tenors. Maestro Andrew sang roles in some of the world's most beloved operas, including "The Barber of Seville," "La Boheme," "Carmen," "Die Fledermaus," "Falstaff," "Susannah," "The Tales of Hoffman," and "Tosca." Maestro Andrew has been on both sides of the footlights. As a singer, he was in front of the stage footlights; as the conductor of the Anchorage Opera, he earned the title of “Maestro” by conducting the orchestra on several occasions—and earned rave reviews! As a performer, Maestro Andrew Sweeney has a vast repertoire. For this reason, each dinner theater show is unique. Maestro Andrew utilizes his gloriously trained tenor voice to float lyrically over the notes in everything from an Adele song celebrating love to one of Elton John's classic rock break-up songs. He impresses his audience by flawlessly handling operatic arias, selections from “Les Misérables” and “Phantom of the Opera,” as well as Lady Gaga and Puccini. In addition, he showcased his keyboarding artistry by playing several instrumental pieces which were exquisitely beautiful. And now, you get to hear him in the Sedona Village Cabaret! The Sedona Village Cabaret meets the classic definition of a cabaret: a restaurant offering fine dining, an extensive selection of luscious libations, and the best in live entertainment. The Sedona Village Cabaret is just that! Better yet: it is a free Tuesday night Mini-Musical Extravaganza which covers all the musical genres you enjoy from Bach to rock! Located in the Sedona Village Outlet Mall, Marketplace Café has long been a local favorite for its vast variety of delicious pastas, fabulous steaks, fresh fish, scrumptious seafood, perfectly prepared poultry, splendid salads, and vegetarian delights. Whether you select the Scottish Salmon complemented with a delicate Orange Glaze, the Top Sirloin steak topped with a Lobster Tail, the Marvelous Meatloaf, the Tropical Chicken Salad, or the Pasta Primavera, you won't be disappointed. Each dinner is prepared when you order it. At Marketplace when you select your dinner, you aren't overpaying for a bulging buffet of food you never touched. Pair your dinner with just the right wine or specialty drink from Marketplace's extensive selection. Save room for a delicious dessert! And the ambiance? It's the best in town! Marketplace Café creates a "sense of community" that brings locals and tourists together in a genuine "Cheers” atmosphere to CELEBRATE LIFE! Dinner is served throughout the show. The $4 house wines are available for this special night! Since there is no cover charge, you do not need to purchase tickets. We encourage you to call for reservations (928/284-5478) since space is filling up fast with Maestro Andrew Sweeney's fantastic fans awaiting the next Sedona Village Cabaret! The Sedona Village Cabaret is every Tuesday in September from 6-9 P.M. Mark your calendars! Maestro Andrew and Marketplace will host the UCLA Alumni Organization on Saturday, November 29 for a special dinner theater show. The event is a benefit to raise scholarships to send brilliant and deserving Arizona students to UCLA.

Community Campout

We've rescheduled and are ready to camp! It's back! Camp at Sunset Park with all of the benefits and none of the draw backs to camping in the wild. Sedona Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer to our community and visitors the opportunity to camp with food provided, activities planned, restrooms nearby, and all while you are surrounded by the beautiful scenery of Sedona! Sunset Park is located at 655 Sunset Drive in Sedona. This fall's event will be held on September 19 & 20 beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday evening and ending at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. For only $15 per tent (if you provide your own) or $35/tent (if we provide your tent), participants can join others for a night of camping under the stars, telescope star viewing, and a group hike in the morning. This event is great for first time campers as well as seasoned campers that want to enjoy camping close to home. So much is included in the small $15/$35 registration fee. Set up your tent at 5:00 p.m. and enjoy the new splash park. After the setting up, get ready to roast hotdogs at around the campfire provided by Whole Foods. Children will enjoy running around the park and adults will enjoy sitting outside in the fresh air. Frisbees, balls and games will be provided for participants to use. When the stars come out, JD Maddy, President of Astronomers of the Verde Valley, will be on site with telescopes for you to use! Join other campers around the bonfire and enjoy roasting some s'mores provided by Parks and Recreation. Roasting yummy marshmallows isn't all you will be doing this year. A local musician will be on site with guitars and other instruments leading you along with great campfire songs. Join in or just enjoy the music, it's up to you. Wake early for a continental breakfast at 7:00 a.m. sponsored by the Sedona Elks Lodge, and a guided hike at 7:30 a.m. Adults and children over 8 may enjoy the guided 1 1/4 mile hike on Bandit Trail. The Park Rangers will point out the natural, geologic and cultural features along the trail and provide plenty of rest stops and opportunities to ask questions. Hikers must carry water and have proper hiking shoes to join in. No dogs allowed on the hike. This might be your only chance to camp in a City park, so don't miss out. The registration deadline is September 17, 2014. Please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 282-7098 or 102 Roadrunner Drive in Sedona to register for this event.

As Sedona’s Red Rocks Were Being Formed~ A Look at the Permian Period

Our first Sunday Lecture Series will feature Kennard Bork on Sunday, September 21st, 2:00 P.M. Ken is a new resident of Sedona and is an enthusiast of the rich natural history and cultural options of this area. He has long been fascinated with dinosaurs and has a Ph.D. in geology and paleontology. Ken’s focus of research was on the history of geology and decoding Central Ohio’s geology. The world of the Permian Period (300 to 250 million years ago) would look quite alien to a modern observer. Most of the continents were together in a great landmass called Pangea. Reptiles and amphibians were the dominant land vertebrates, because dinosaurs and mammals would not appear for tens of millions of years. Lycopods (of coal-forest fame), conifers, ferns, and seed ferns represented the land flora, long before flowering plants appeared. The young Appalachian Mountains had recently been created by continental collisions, but the birth events of the Rockies, Alps, and Himalayas were far in the future. Sedona sat near the equator as our famous Red Rocks were being formed. The Permian period ended with the greatest extinction event in the history of the planet. This lecture will briefly look at the Earth during that fascinating time. Space is limited so please call ahead to reserve your space; the program is included within the Park’s admission fees: $5.00 per adult (14 and up), $3.00 per youth (7-13), and free for children (0-6). For additional information and reservations, please call (928) 282-6907.

Maestro Andrew Sweeney Sings “The Music of the Night” at the Sedona Village Cabaret!

Enjoy the best dinner theater in Sedona—the Sedona Village Cabaret at Marketplace Café this Tuesday night! Whether he is singing “The Music of the Night” from “Phantom of the Opera,” or performing “All I Ask of You” from the same musical (or faux opera), you will be dazzled by the lyrical brilliance of Maestro Andrew Sweeney. Maestro Andrew Sweeney has spent more than 22 years training for just this moment at the Sedona Village Cabaret. After earning his bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance from the esteemed music department at Chapman University in California, Maestro Andrew Sweeney continued his graduate education in Vocal Performance at UCLA where he earned his doctorate (ABD). As a professional opera singer, he sung at the Los Angeles Music Center Opera where he was hired by the world famous tenor, Plácido Domingo. As an operatic tenor, Andrew Sweeney has sung roles in "Amahl and the Night Visitors," "The Barber of Seville," "Billy Budd," "La Boheme," "Carmen," "Die Fledermaus," "Falstaff," "Iolanthe," "Les Mamelles de Tiresias," "Le Pauvre Matelot," "The Rake's Progress," "La Scala di Seta," "Susannah," "La Tabernera del Puerto," "The Tales of Hoffman," "Tosca," and "Turn of the Screw." He sang the title role in Benjamin Britten's "St. As voice coach, director, and arranger, he prepared very promising singers to excel as well as directing every step of the production from Day One rehearsals to opening night. Through his music, Maestro Andrew anticipates adding to Marketplace's well deserved reputation as a restaurant which is creating a “sense of community” that brings locals and visitors together to celebrate life. Mark your calendars! On Saturday, November 29 from 6-9 P.M., Maestro Andrew will perform a benefit dinner theater performance for the UCLA Alumni to raise money for college scholarships for deserving Arizona students. Having benefited from the scholarships he earned while a student at UCLA, this is the Maestro's way of giving back! Event is open to anyone who would like to support college education!

I learned and experienced so much during these few days together. I can honestly say I am a more enlightened sister Goddess now." ~ Traci "This retreat changed my outlook on life and spirituality and how to react with greater consciousness in different situations. 5th Annual Hopi All Native Arts & Cultural Festival

This festival is free and for the whole family to enjoy the beauty of Native American art and culture. "Life in the eyes of an artist is unique and reflects the beauty in life and brings out serenity." The Hopi Festival brings to Flagstaff public education by way of art, traditional social dances and traditional foods. This event aims to bring the City of Flagstaff together with surrounding neighbors to learn from one another in unity, happiness and stewardship of the earth for all people of different walks of life. The City of Flagstaff's City Council unanimously approved a street closure of Aspen Avenue between San Francisco and Leroux Streets to again allow for increasing the size of the festival. Our goal is to partner with the City to promote a diversity of arts, culture and educational opportunities through the Hopi Festival at Heritage Square. As the interest in and attendance at the Festival has grown each year, we realized we needed to expand opportunities for additional artisans and presenters of Native American culture to meet the demands of the visitors. Closing the street to expand the Festival's footprint made a lot of sense and we thank the City of Flagstaff and the downtown businesses for their support. This years festival will donate proceeds from the festival to Domestic Violence on Hopi and in Flagstaff. Location of event: E Aspen Ave and N Leroux St -Heritage Square in down town Flagstaff Date of Event: September 27th & 28th, 2014 Start time: 9:00 am each day and ending at 5 pm each day For more information on what will be happening please visit: www.hopiallnativefestival.com "It is exciting to have our downtown businesses be a part of our Festival and hope that our working relationship will only grow stronger," Talayumptewa coordinator said "Each year that I work on putting this Festival together gives me a feeling of satisfaction knowing that I am a part of a rich heritage that I can share with others" This years festival hopes to draw the crowds it did last year and to bring more art and entertainment for a better understanding of life.

Maestro Andrew Sweeney Sings Selections from “Les Misérables” at the Sedona Village Cabaret!

Whether Maestro Andrew Sweeney is singing “Bring Him Home” or playing “I Dreamed a Dream” from “Les Misérables,” you are in for a great time at the best dinner theater in Sedona, the Sedona Village Cabaret at Marketplace Café this Tuesday night! Add in $4 glasses of wine and a dinner special, and you can get dinner and a show for under $20! It's a great way to celebrate life! The music is exquisite! Maestro Andrew earned his Ph.D. In Vocal Performance from UCLA and that training has finely honed his voice into the exceptional instrument it is today. After the world famous tenor, Plácido Domingo, heard Maestro Andrew sing, he hired him for the Los Angeles Music Center Opera. Maestro Andrew sang in some of the world's most cherished operas such as "La Boheme," "Carmen," "Die Fledermaus," and "Tosca." Now, you can hear sing operatic arias such as “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini's “Turandot” and "Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix" (“My Heart Opens Itself to Your Voice”) from “Samson et Dalila” by Camille Saint-Saëns. Since Andrew Lloyd Weber based many of his most famous songs on Puccini arias in public domain, you can hear Maestro Andrew sing Puccini' melody and Andrew Lloyd Weber's lyrics on “The Music of the Night” and “All I Ask of You” from “Phantom of the Opera.” In between, Maestro Andrew will add in Madonna (“The Power of Good-Bye”), Lady Gaga (“The Edge of Glory”), Three Dog Night (“Joy to the World”), and Gershwin (“Summertime” from “Porgy and Bess”). It's all eclectically Sedona! Dinner is served throughout his three hour performance from 6-9 P.M. Since there is no cover charge, you do not need to purchase tickets. We encourage you to call for reservations (928) 284-5478. Space is filling up fast with Maestro Andrew Sweeney's fantastic fans awaiting the next Sedona Village Cabaret!

Zen Creativity and the Art of Life

“Zen Dude” Alok Hsu Kwang-han and spiritual teacher Raylene Abbott will inspire and guide you to rest in the spaciousness of your being, to become intimate with not-knowing, and to allow your brush—or you—to dance from emptiness! Being playful with not-knowing and putting aside all ideas of how to paint, you might be asked to paint the energy of a partner acting like a wild animal; your heart's desire; the Zen Koan, "My house burned down, I can see the moon!"; Rumi's "God has only four words, 'Come Dance with me!'", or the sound of silence... As we paint and share what we discover in our paintings, we are surprised by the intelligence, good humor and creativity that come to find us. As we deepen into the workshop, we relax and return to our natural state of "resting in presence and moving from emptiness". From here the art of life unfolds.

10th Annual Sedona Plein Air Festival

SEDONA PLEIN AIR FESTIVAL pays homage to the spirit and innovation of the great French Impressionists whose paintings were based on the belief that "you should trust your eyes" to capture the beauty that surrounds you. As with the old masters, contemporary plein-air artists paint from life in the out-of-doors (en plein air), capturing moments in time that reflect the ever-changing colors, light and shadows, temperature and shifting elements. The art form requires stamina, focus, and the ability to be completely absorbed in the work regardless of what Mother Nature is throwing at them. There is no setting more perfect than Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon in late October to find vibrant, unexpected scenic beauty. It is truly an artist's paradise. Thirty award-winning artists, selected from among the best of the best, have accepted invitations to participate in this showcase. They are coming from all over the United States to spend seven days painting en plein air, and to share their incredible talent and unique experiences with this challenging art form. 2014 Festival Artists: Mitch Baird (Colorado), Joshua Been (Colorado), Shonto Begay (Arizona), Robert Burridge (California), Michele Byrne (Pennsylvania), Betty Carr (Arizona), Bill Cramer (Arizona), Robert Dalegowski (Arizona), Christine Debrosky (Arizona), Katie Dowling (Colorado), Stan Fellows (Colorado), Tracey Frugoli (Illinois), Bruce Gomez (Colorado), Debra Joy Groesser (Nebraska), Charlie Hunter (Vermont), Caroline Jasper (Florida), Michael Chesley Johnson (Arizona), Becky Joy (Arizona), Shelby Keefe (Wisconsin), Gretchen Lopez (Arizona), Robert Masla (Massachusetts), James McGrew (Oregon), Lori McNee (Idaho), Carl Ortman (Colorado), Dave Santillanes (Colorado) Loriann Signori (Washington DC), Susiehyer (Colorado), Dawn Sutherland (Arizona), Williamson Tapia (Arizona)

Dia de Los Muertos Celebration at Tlaquepaque

Join us in the courtyards of Tlaquepaque on Friday, October 31st and Saturday, November 1st, 2014 to make an offering at the Celebration of Dia de los Muertos. Music, food and beautiful altars will be on view starting at 4:30 p.m. - Watch fire dancers and visit our thematic face painting booth. Costumes are encouraged. Ofrenda or Offering, in the traditional Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos, is created to remember the dead and to honor ancestors. A special spot in the home is customarily selected to put photographs, flowers, decorations, lit candles and the favorite food and drink of those who have passed away. This act of preparing an altar of offerings to the dead helps transform grief into acceptance. In Arizona, the making of portable Ofrendas to be displayed for exhibition has become a form of contemporary cultural expression. Expand your knowledge of Día de los Muertos through the beauty and creativity of Ofrenda installations by joining us and making any personal offering for those special friends, family members or even special pets that might be missed. Sage Women Awakening Conference Sedona

The “Sage Women Awakening” event is an opportunity for today’s modern women to acquire valuable tools and information to assist them through the sometimes “challenging” transition periods in their lives. Based on the ancient principles of Ayurveda, Native American Wisdom and Modern Medicine, popular authorities on the subject will present ways to renegotiate the illusion that tabloids and media have portrayed, resulting in misconceptions of how women view themselves in today’s society. There are large groups of women across the globe who are confused, frustrated and feel like they are left out. Most self-awareness seminars, conferences, workshops and similar events target a generalized group. It’s time to remember the truth and wisdom behind menopausal transformation, so women of today can truly embrace their power and unlimited potential. During Sage Women Awakening, we will gain an understanding of these profound times and move through them together with grace, confidence and vitality.

A Christmas Carol

Sedona's own award-winning actor, playwright and historian, Michael Peach will read Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" in front of a fire in the Museum's historic red rock fireplace. Enjoy Peach's rendition of this holiday classic. Not since Dickens himself took to the stage to perform his most famous story, has there been such a command of the characters as Peach presents. Follow this engrossing tale of Ebenezer Scrooge's ghostly journeys through Christmases past, present, and future and his ultimate transformation from a harsh and grasping old miser to a charitable and compassionate human being. A perennial classic that has become as much a part of the holiday season as holly, mistletoe, and evergreen wreaths. A perfect and entertaining reminder of the meaning of the holiday season.
