Colonial Dames Marking Dedication of Schuerman Homestead House
Date:
Saturday, April 18 2026
The Colonial Dames of America, an organization of women descended from ancestors who supported the American Revolution and who support historic preservation, are dedicating the Schuerman Homestead House as a historic landmark. Join us for a special dedication ceremony to be held in the historic Apple Shed at the Sedona Heritage Museum at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18. We will deliver speeches and present a bronze plaque. Henrich (Henry) and his wife, Dorette Schuerman, were among Sedona's earliest settlers. The Schuerman Homestead is the last remaining intact house in the Red Rock/Oak Creek area, built circa 1908. The Schuermans opened the first winery in Arizona, built the first school in the area, and established the first cemetery. In 2018, Martha Loy, their granddaughter, donated the original house and about an acre of land to the Sedona Historical Society.
