Literary Periscope: Race in America with Kim Holland

NEW! This four-week course requires students to read/ watch required texts/movie, and discuss setting, point
of view, and specific textual references. This course will feature Eve Ewing’s “1919,” poetry inspired by the Chicago Race Riot of 1919; James Baldwin’s “If Beale Street Could Talk,” a novel of love and injustice; Pat Carr’s “If We Must Die,” a novel set in Tulsa’s 1921 Greenwood riot; and Paul Webb’s film “Selma,” which documents the 1965 movement for equal voting rights.
