Sedona kicks off every month in style.
The 1st Friday in the Galleries brings out an eager crowd of art lovers. For a few hours, the streets of Sedona are as fascinating as the surrounding landscape. Organized by the dynamic Sedona Gallery Association, the event takes place the first Friday of the month. Dozens of Sedona’s preeminent art galleries stay open into the evening with many hosting special events, demonstrations, receptions and artist meet-and-greets.
The last rays of sun streak the red rock cliffs with a glossy sheen and a dreamy light washes over the town as the fast-falling dusk bruises the sky in shades of burgundy, blood orange and plum. Into this radiant color palette, patrons move from gallery to gallery. Food is nibbled, wine is sipped and inspiration is inhaled. Light and music spills from open doors. Even the Sedona Trolley offers free transportation during 1st Friday that lasts from 5-8 p.m., circulating among galleries.
The raw physical beauty of Sedona lures artists, ignites their passions and often provokes their best work. Then it all goes on display at studios and galleries around town. Visitors can savor every medium including Western bronzes, whimsical kinetic sculptures, contemporary jewelry, Native American kachinas and weavings, fine art paintings, large format photography, stained glass, ceramics, woodcarvings, architectural décor piece and many more.
And while most galleries are open daily, a special magic exists during the 1st Friday event. There’s a palpable energy as so many like-minded people gather in the twilight and admire the textures, colors and details of these vibrant one-of-a-kind expressions of art. 1st Friday in the Galleries is very much the quintessential Sedona experience, a celebration of beauty, of fervor and the creative spirit. And of course, the experience is complete with the exciting purchase of your favorite piece.
Two kinds of people are drawn to Sedona, artists and lovers of art. The first Friday of every month is their night to howl.
